چکیده

A lthough real world signals are analog, it is often desirable to convert them into the digital domain .using an analog to digital converter (ADC). Motivating designers to apply this conversion is the efficient transmission and storage of digital signals. Digital representation of an audio signal, for example, allows CD players to achieve virtually error free storage using optical disks [l]. Intricate processing of the signal may also necessitate analog to digital (AD) conversion, since such processing is only feasible in the digital domain using either conventional digital computers or special purpose digital signal processors (DSPs). Signal processing in the digital domain is also extremely useful in such areas as biomedical applications, providing the needed accuracy for tasks such as ultrasound imaging. One technique, sigma-delta modulation, has become quite popular for achieving high resolution. One significant advantage of the method is that analog signals are converted using only a 1-bit ADC and analog signal processing circuits having a precision that is usually much less than the resolution of the overall converter. Weighted median filters with sigma-delta modulation encoding

Oversampled Sigma-Delta modulation (SDM) is becoming a standard method for implementing high-resolution A/D and D/A converters in silicon. Digital decimation lters play a fundamental role in Oversampled Sigma-Delta A/D decoders. In this paper, we rst show that Weighted Median Filters (WMF) can be used for SDM decimation lters and that these lters are readily implemented in the SDM binary domain...

Sampling Jitter in Audio A/D Converters

This paper provides an overview of the effects of timing jitter in audio sampling analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), i.e. PCM (conventional or Nyquist sampling) ADCs and sigma-delta (Σ∆) ADCs. Jitter in a digital audio is often defined as shortterm fluctuations of the sampling instants of a digital signal from their ideal positions in time. The influence of the jitter increases particularly w...
